Roger's Plumbing Announces Employee Continuing Education Program

Employees of the company will be required to attend relevant classes to ensure they stay updated with new codes and regulations.

Austin, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/08/2016 -- Roger's Plumbing has announced a requirement for its employees to attend continuing education classes. The classes will allow the company's repair technicians to stay up to date with the latest changes, updates and regulations to the plumbing codes. The family-owned business, started by Roger L. Patterson in 1994, also educates and trains its employees in customer service and on the latest repair and installation techniques; in addition to their education, the company announces that its employees are subject to a criminal background check and expected to meet certain standards of appearance and demeanor.

Changes to the Austin plumbing code are numerous each year. The code itself is over 50 pages long in its entirety and must be adhered to by all plumbing installations. The code covers the detailed regulations related to plumbing fixtures, water heaters, water supply, sanitary drainage, vents, fuel piping, nonpotable water reuse systems and energy standards. Potential amendments to the regulations are offered and either approved or disapproved on an annual basis and form a body of local specifications added on to the National Plumbing Codes.

A few of the more recent interpretations of and additions to the Universal Plumbing Code, made by the City of Austin's Planning, Development and Review Department, involve the installation of composting toilets, which are not allowed when an up-to-code public sewer is available; the emergency shut off valve location for gas equipment, which can be located above the ceiling; and the trenching, excavation, bedding and backfill of piping, a process which requires awareness of specific methods and materials.

More information about the amendment process, local ordinances and other City and National codes, such as the Building, Energy and Fire Codes, is available in detail on the website for the city of Austin.

The continuing education offered to employees by Roger's Plumbing seeks to ensure that its employees maintain the skills of the plumbing trade and how these skills need to be applied relative to the National and Local plumbing codes.

The founder of Roger's Plumbing has directed the company for over 20 years and is still active in the business today. The company's employees work from and transport to service calls in company vehicles as opposed to their own cars and are ensured the use of the latest state-of-the-art tools to complement their plumbing education.
