Candidate is a victim of circumstance following his ‘47%’ remarks
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/15/2012 -- The connection between the phrase “Completely Wrong” and Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s face are wholly unintentional according to a Google spokesperson.
The “completely wrong” search has recently resulted in showing the former governor’s face because the statement he made the previous week, wherein he stated his now infamous “47 percent” remarks.
In September, an American website Mother Jones released a video that had Romney stating that 47% of Americans paid no income tax. More problematic was the fact that Romney stated that those individuals were receiving handouts, and could not be worried about in his campaign.
The incident occurred at a closed-door meeting with rather wealthy donors. The entire situation smacked of rich elitism, which at least temporarily hurt Romney’s standing with many voters.
The remarks were widely criticized by media and political pundits, and resulted in Romney admitting that his words were “just completely wrong”.
Since then, the search for “completely wrong” on Google has resulted in Romney appearing as a top search result. A Google spokesperson stated that it is a normal relation between the phrase and the Republican candidate’s statements and picture.
Romney decries were quick to point out the Google search result. Stand-up comedian Rob Delaney stated on his social network site with: "Ha! Do a Google image search of the term "completely wrong".
This is not the first time an unfortunate turn of phrase and political personas have been linked. In the mid-part of the last decade, George W. Bush found himself a victim of similar circumstances. Then President Bush was linked to quite a few unfortunate titles, while the White House website itself was linked to the word “failure”.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Labour politician Hazel Blears have also been victims of the “Google Bomb”, the phase given to the link between a negative term and a person or establishment.
