Stores report best sales in years
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/15/2012 -- Despite the housing market’s slow path to recovery, home improvement retailers are reporting stellar sales.
According to IBM Smarter Commerce, home improvement sales trumped back-to-school shopping for families this summer.
The surge is affecting retailers ranging from small-town hardware stores to big-box stores like Home Depot, which reported its highest quarterly earnings in five years last month at $1.5 billion.
The increasing popularity of “outdoor rooms” have given outdoor furniture producer Lane Venture its best sales in years, said President Gary McCray.
Home Depot’s Giles Bowerman, senior vice president of merchandising, said sales are up across the board.
Most people, mostly due to the financial crisis, have not chosen to invest in purchasing new homes. Instead, they are working towards remodeling the ones they already own and renovating the look entirely to keep it up-to-date.
Jay Henderson, IBM global strategy program director, said consumers are “hunkering down” in the still flagging housing market. “People are choosing not to move into a new house, and instead reinvest in their homes,” he said.
Selecting the best outdoor furniture is bound to make any environment better than it was previously and making the right choice is always important in order to make sure it suits your needs exactly. Most people make the mistake of going out and grabbing the most generic looking furniture they can find, but through a little hard work and time, creating the perfect setting is not that difficult to do.
