Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/31/2012 -- An admirer of the sensational Chinese performing arts company Shen Yun is aiming to spread word of the company across the globe and highlight the New York troupe’s magical and critically acclaimed shows.
Shen Yun was established six years ago to celebrate five thousand years of Chinese culture and civilisation that had been almost erased by the Communist Government. A group of Chinese performers based overseas decided to revive the music, songs and dance of their Ancient Chinese homeland and bring these performances to a global audience.
The company now boasts three troupes which comprise singers, dancers, musicians, MCs and production staff. The performances combine traditional Chinese storytelling, mysticism and beliefs, with more modern aspects of Chinese culture and feature beautiful music, dramatic animated sets and fabulous costumes.
Since Shen Yun’s first performances the company has enjoyed fantastic reviews and has attracted an army of fans including politicians, fashion designers and music artists.
An admirer of Shen Yun said “These performances are some of the most remarkable I’ve ever seen and really bring to life aspects of Chinese culture that were feared long-forgotten."
“Shen Yun opens up Chinese culture to a whole new audience who can now see how marvellous, awe-inspiring and truly beautiful it is, a true representation of Chinese history.”
Each year Shen Yun develops a new line up of songs, dance and musical scores and a new way of celebrating the grace, wisdom and virtue of five thousand years of Chinese civilisation. The performances include tributes to classical Chinese dance, as well as to ethnic and folk dances.
In a series of pieces, the audience is transported from the rocky Himalayas to the tranquil and tropical lake regions, from the legends of the culture’s creation over 5,000 years ago through to the story of Falun Dafa in China today; from the highest heavens down to the dusty plateaus of the Middle Kingdom..
Tenors, sopranos and award-winning vocalists perform solos accompanied by the piano and the Chinese erhu, which can also be seen in the orchestral pieces alongside that other traditional Chinese instrument, the pipa. When combined with Western instruments and music, a truly unique and unexpected sound is created.
Animated backdrops help take the audience on a journey through celestial paradises, Mongolian prairies and blossom-filled landscapes, while rich, sumptuous costumes span dynasties and provide inspiration to fashion designers and fashionistas alike.
The admirer continued to say “Anyone looking for a truly unique and fascinating evening out should seek out Shen Yun as they are guaranteed a wonderful experience."
“The company continues to grow and become more innovative in their performances and I’m sure they will go on delighting audiences for many years to come.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts was established in 2006 with the mission of reviving 5,000 years of Chinese culture. After more than 60 years of Communist rule in China, and especially after the Cultural Revolution, Chinese traditional culture had been completely demolished. However, the ancient culture, with its values of benevolence, honor, propriety, wisdom, and sincerity, as well as a reverence for the Gods and the heavens, was not destroyed.
In order to restore and revive Chinese traditional culture, a group of overseas Chinese artists established Shen Yun in New York. About 90 artists embarked on Shen Yun’s first tour in 2007 and by 2009 Shen Yun had grown to three performance troupes and large orchestras.
Today, Shen Yun counts many winners of international dance and vocal competitions among its performers and the orchestras include musicians from world-renowned symphonies and conservatories. For more information, please visit http://www.shenyunperformingarts.org
