Sony unveils 20-inch tablet to challenge Apple, Samsung and Amazon
Dallas, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/25/2012 -- Sony, the Japanese multinational conglomerate company, unveiled its latest 20-inch Android supported device at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin. The showing was an attempt to jump start the sale of the company’s tablet computers. The new touchscreen computer, Sony’s Xperia Tablet S, is thinner in size compared to its previous model, and is also “splash-proof”.
The marketing material presented during the unveiling suggests that the new touchscreen computer can be used anywhere around the house, as the tablet is designed to be safe against contact with water. “Splash-proof Xperia Tablet S is designed for real-life use around the home and outdoors, so there’s no need to worry about casual water spillages if you’re checking a recipe in the kitchen with wet hands,” According to bbc.com.
Sony’s bold move came a few days after Amazon announced the new version of the Kindle Fire, which is larger in size, and is priced aggressively to attract users. The competition is now fierce as the four technology giants Apple, Samsung, Sony, and Amazon attack the market with their new and improved tablets.
Sony is not the first company to release a water-protected model of the touchscreen computer; however, this advantage will definitely help the organization against its competition. Sony’s second advantage is the size of their tablet. The 20-inch screen is quite large when compared to traditional tablets.
The principal analyst at Informa, David McQueen, said the tablet marker is extremely competitive with Apple dominating the sector continuously. However, the differentiation like screen size, price and some other distinctive features can make a difference.
