It is extremely important to get power lines underground so that storms do not interrupt America’s electric power. MIT is ready to do a study of job creation and other aspects.
New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/05/2013 -- The purpose of Power Underground Inc. (www.powerunderground.org) is to promote the undergrounding of local electric lines and make such undergrounding a national priority. It is their intention to begin work by funding an impartial study by MIT of the economic impact and real costs of an undergrounding program, the technological feasibility of such a program and the problems, risks and advantages. They will also involve environmentalists, educators and government officials at local, state and federal levels - always seeking ideas and thoughts on the pros and cons of such a program.
As they see the results of these studies, they would then move to education and advocacy of the process. They would prepare and distribute educational materials to be used in schools at all grade levels that would discuss the advantages and disadvantages of undergrounding. It is their hope to create a national dialogue at all levels to discuss all aspects of undergrounding.
There are three main reasons for undergrounding power lines;
1. Electric service ceases to be subject to the vagaries of the weather.
2. The visual pollution caused by countless poles strung with wires is removed from the environment.
3. The hundreds of thousands of jobs created by a nationwide undergrounding program and the stimulus provided to manufacturers of construction equipment, cables, transformers and other electrical equipment designed for underground use would be enormous.
This campaign will receive all funds raised even if it does not reach its goal. Funding duration: August 27, 2013 - October 26, 2013 (11:59pm PT).
