Nokia Corporation (ADR)(NYSE:NOK) shares climbed 4.10% to $5.33. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) on Sept. 3 announced its agreement to acquire Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK)’s Devices and Services section, including the right to license the patent and to use the mapping services, for €5.44 billion. Under the terms of the agreement, the software giant will also acquire the mobile phone and smartphone business units including the Lumia & Asha brands and related production facilities of the Finnish smartphone manufacturer.
Additionally, the company is projecting to launch a 10.1-inch full 1080p HD display clad tablet code-named “Sirius” with Windows RT operating system for which consumers has shown no interest. Since months, Nokia has been rumored of working upon a Windows RT based device. Nokia will run Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows RT operating system on this tablet. Nokia is projected to unveil this tablet by the end of next month at a special event scheduled in New York, USA.

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) shares gained 5.29% to $10.75. BlackBerry’s board hopes to run a "fast" auction process that could result in a sale of the company by November, the Wall Street Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter on Sept. 4. A special committee of board members has narrowed its list of potential bidders since the company put itself up for sale in August, and is now pushing for quick resolution, the newspaper said.
Additionally, BlackBerry (NASDAQ: BBRY; TSX: BB) and Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America, on August 26 announced that Univision has purchased 2,000 BlackBerry Q10 smartphones to upgrade all corporate issued BlackBerry smartphones. In addition to upgrading their entire mobile fleet, Univision is offering new BlackBerry 10 apps on the BlackBerry World™ storefront.
Moreover, the company on August 20 has laid off another 100 employees at the smartphone maker’s hub in Waterloo, Ont. The latest cuts come in addition to the 250 employees that were laid off in July, the Financial Post has learned.
