Infograph shows the high costs of textbooks only grows with age of students
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/21/2013 -- Textbooks have been a longstanding front-line in the education for the average student across the world. The knowledge held within the covers is often an invaluable resource for the mysteries of all subjects, brought to light by the authors. From kindergarten up to the senior year at a university, textbooks are an integral part of the learning experience. They are something each and every student knows well. Many students likely cannot even imagine life without a pile of textbooks somewhere in his or her house. TextbookLand.com has created a infographic that gives everyone a taste of the interesting statistics behind the common leaning tools.
The infographic notes that the number of textbooks used by student from grades K-12 is 19.9 in total. Many of those books are large and multi-subject books, that cover an incredible amount of general knowledge about the world around them.
The average cost of books tends to vary depending on the subject and the level of learning. The average cost of the elementary book, according to the TextbookLand.com infographic is $39.49, while the average cost of a middle-school book is $56.39. Another jump in price as high school textbooks cost $61.34 on average.
When it comes to University textbook costs, the infographic points to a large financial burden on students. Textbook costs are between $700-1,000 on average according to the U.S Department of Education. The burden is not only financial, however, as the books tend to weigh somewhere between two and six pounds per, which can add up on those packed schooldays, reaching 8-24 pounds being lugged about campus. That has prompted more students to begin to buy books online, at the tune of 60% according to the BookBoom poll on the infographic.
According to TextbookLand.com, more older books have begun to be used, with 40% currently having been owned by someone prior to the current owner. That likely has something to do with the reduction in price, as price is reduced by 50-60% on average. For cash-strapped college students, this is a an important reduction.
TextbookLand.com provides a forum for buying, selling, and general price-searching for text books. Users can search throughout the thousand of books on catalogue, and seek out specific textbooks. See their newly released infographic here - http://www.textbookland.com/textbook-industry.php.
