The AngelWing Project's Latest Production Is a Phenomenal Success

Glen Burnie, MD -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/15/2018 -- Tears of the Soul, written and directed by Angela Wilson, received standing ovations through all three performances. A packed audience was transported back to the struggles of African Americans in the late 1960s. The play was beautifully directed and produced by Wilson with a cast that captured the audience from the beginning, leaving them feeling a deep emotional tide by the final curtain call. The Chesapeake Arts Center called it "another great production from the AngelWing Project. As our resident theater company, we share in the pride of the success of this powerful and moving play. Through our partnership, we will look for ways to broaden our audience so that more people can enjoy local talent as they take the stage and deliver high-quality theatrical performances."

The play captured the tense racial issues that reached a critical level in the late 1960s. It provided both an external representation of social issues alongside the personal turmoil represented in the daily interactions of the Barnes family. The play exposed the audience to the visceral representation of life during that time period displayed through a riveting performance from a local cast. "Working with this cast to bring this production to life was truly a blessing," praises Wilson, "We all were deeply committed to the creative process and I commend this cast on their dedication and hard work. It showed onstage through their strong performances. It is my goal to continue working on productions from the talent in this community."

The production ran for two days with three shows at the Chesapeake Arts Center in Brooklyn Park, MD on the 28th and 29th of April 2018. As a reference, Mr. Cleophus Smith of Memphis, TN was interviewed by Wilson. He was an original sanitation striker who marched with Dr. King. Wilson spoke with him on several occasions and his real-life story was able to inform the storyline in ways that made it uniquely authentic.

Angela Wilson is the founder and President of AngelWing Project, Inc. (AWP) a grass roots theater production company aimed at inspiring the local community with original productions and published plays. They tell stories of real people and real events outside the worn-down narratives found in history books. Their documentary style productions illustrate the dynamic aspects of a vast American culture with the hope of positively impacting their audience.
