There is expectation that 2013 might be the year that the impressive growth of the e cigarette will be stalled. Yet there is hope that the FDA will take a page from the EU on issues regarding electronic cigarettes.
Austin, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/29/2013 -- The electronic cigarettes are populating Hollywood in growing numbers with more and more celebrities that are now taking up the smoking devices that are now popular throughout the US. These range from Leonardo DiCaprio to Johnny Depp and even spoke lady Jenny McCarthy goes out with them. Whilst it may be argued that many of them are using e cigarettes for endorsement purposes there is growing proof that a large number of them are using them for personal reasons as well.
And whilst there is currently no FDA approval on their use or no study that has been done to evaluate the effects of the top smokeless cigarettes on smokers. There are a growing number of smokers that claim that they are now experiencing a better lifestyle that they were having when they were smoking tobacco cigarettes. There is also been concern raised that the use of electronic cigarettes by Hollywood stars will be seen as an attempt to glamorize smoking as well as to get minors addicted to nicotine. It has also brought to the attention of smokers and the general public that vapor cigarettes are an alternative smoking option that exists; this has resulted in e cigarettes becoming more socially acceptable.
What has been suggested is that this move is seen as a way to show to the world the dangers that are related to tobacco smoking rather than to merely encourage people to go out and buy electronic cigarette. Whilst the relationship between electronic cigarettes and Hollywood is a mutually beneficial affair, what is known is that this largely unregulated industry will be facing regulation as early as possibly next week. Such a move could stunt the growth of the e cig industry that is estimated to grow by at least 300% this year alone in terms of revenue.
Yet there is hope that even with the upcoming regulation on electric cigarettes, there might not be as strict as envisioned thanks to the recent refusal by the European Parliament to regulate electronic cigarettes under the same regimen as medical products. Another reason is that the electronic cigarette brands currently hold a record of zero fatalities and zero causalities and this has gone a long way to instill public trust.
