Ticks also rely on warm blooded animals for a blood meal. Ticks attach to a pet by burrowing their heads under the primary layer of skin the dog’s or cat’s skin. This action on feeding leads to skin lesions and secondary blood disease. Skin lesions are defined as pyritic wounds which may become infected. Ticks can also transfer disease including; Lyme Disease, Canine Ehrlichiosis, Anaplasmosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Hetatozoonosis, Babesiosis, or cause tick paralysis.
