The satellite radio provider is controlled by John Malone's Liberty Media and the two names are latest high-profile additions to the company’s board, which added Discovery Chief Executive Officer David Zaslav in May.
These two would be replacing Mark Carleton and Robin Pringle, executives from Liberty Media who resigned after nine months.
Bodenheimer was executive chairman of Walt Disney's ESPN and has a vast experience whereas Bates was CEO of the acquired online chat company Skype. Bates may also be one of the candidates to replace Ballmer as Microsoft CEO.
Liberty Media controls Sirius XM from this year. The company had acquired 40 percent stake in 2009 after which it gave a loan of $530 million to the firm for avoiding bankruptcy.
Sirius XM incurred $530 million for acquiring connected car services unit of Agero in August and this deal would make the firm branch out beyond music as well talk radio.

Himax Technologies, Inc. (ADR)(NASDAQ:HIMX) surged after research commentary from Oppenheimer and Craig-Hallum indicating a positive sentiment. The firm’s shares may surge further with introduction of new wearable devices.
Earlier, some other traders had suggested buying the Taiwenese LCD technology manufacturing firm’s stock as they believed it was underpriced. $5.39 post which Himax shares have surged by about 50%.
The recent notes by analysts have led to trade of over 100 million shares as against a three month average of 40 million shares per week. It is being speculated that wearable mobile devices such as Samsung Gear and Google Glass as well as display systems in automobile industry would be increasingly using Himax’s technology.
Earlier, President and CEO of the firm Jordan Wu opined that the firm is pleased with its second quarter performance registering good performance.
