Former WWE Champion teams up with former World Series Champion for fitness efforts
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/23/2012 -- The start of November signifies the beginning of a truly meaningful fundraising campaign for men all across the world. The movement is aptly named “Movember” by wrestling’s great “Mo Sistas” with the release of a special edition DVD that will coincide with the month known for mustaches and oversized turkeys.
Trish Stratus, former 7-time WWE Women’s Champion, will opened her own online store on November 1, and will have her knew DVD, Stratusphere Yoga for Men DVD. Stratus will be teaming up with Joe Carter, with a special release that commemorated the 20-year anniversary of Jay’s first World Series Championship.
A portion of proceeds of all DVD sales, along with all copies sold in November, will be donated to Movember Canada, which helps support the fight against prostate cancer and men’s mental health research and advocacy.
The concept of a DVD focusing on both Yoga and Movemeber was a natural fit to Stratus, who has supported the cause for half of a decade.
“The health benefits of yoga are really incredible,” says Stratus, who has operated her Stratusphere Yoga studio in Toronto since 2006. “Yoga not only gets men active – a key component of improving your mental state especially in the winter – it gets them thinking about other aspects of their lifestyle, especially diet, which can help combat the on-set of prostate and other cancers.”
Battling the stereotype of yoga, which some men still see as not ‘manly’ was just another obstacle to overcome. She trains NHL, CFL, as well as current and former WWE superstars. She hopes that fact will help some men into the Movember movement, but is aware is can be a challenge to get men off the couch and onto a yoga mat. Stratus noted that teaming up with Joe Carter could be a major help to bringing more men into the fold. Carter was an integral piece of the Blue Jay’s back-to-back World Series victories in 1992 and 1993. Stratus believes few will doubt Carter’s ‘manliness’, which should help bolster her efforts.
“Joe was a true pro to work with,” Stratus remarks. “He not only went through every pose, no matter how challenging it was, but he has been a great partner in telling guys that yoga isn’t for sissies.”
