Verifying and Rebuilding Data in QuickBooks – Knowing Which End Is Up

Brandon, MB -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/04/2019 -- One very valuable tool that deals with damaged or corrupt QuickBooks data is the QuickBooks Verify and Rebuild Data Utility. This tool is used especially useful when one encounters different errors.

The main purpose of the verification process is to find how your QuickBooks file is doing. This tool will verify each and every transaction file in your company data and records a message in the qbwin.log file for any damaged transactions. It's also meant for detecting damaged file items.

"Some reasons why you would need to use the Rebuild and Verify Tool are when transactions data are not available, the business file doesn't open, names are missing from company lists, balance sheet reports are not displaying all accounts, you receive error pop-up when working in QuickBooks, impossible to save transactions orif QuickBooks automatically crash when you click to save a transaction," E-Tech's John Rocha, Technical Services Manager said.

Rocha warned, however, of certain cues to keep in mind when it comes to running the tool. He advisednot torun this as a routine procedure, to run it on a copy of your company data, not your live file. "If you are having a data problems, create a copy of your file, or backup your company and restore it to a different name, and run the rebuild on the copy."

"It is also important to understand that rebuild will significantly change account balances, or customer or vendor balances, without warning. You would need to print out a balance sheet, a customer aging report, and a vendor aging report, and see if anything has changed," Rocha said. Rebuild can also change any account significantly, but especially check your inventory account, your accounts receivable and accounts payable accounts, and your bank accounts.
