Hanoi, Vietnam -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/17/2013 -- Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang met with visiting Malaysian Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah in Hanoi at the start of the month. The two leaders were discussing plans for the two countries to work closely together on issues such as: national defence, national security, labour issues, oil and gas, educational training, farming and marine development. Agreement was reached at the meeting which was described as cordial. It followed a welcoming ceremony conducted enthusiastically.
The two countries are great friends and the progression of that friendship seemed assured as both sides looked to enhance even closer ties in the future. President Sang spoke of the special relationship enjoyed by the two partners, when he hailed Malaysia as one of the top trading associates in the region. Malaysia are also one of the biggest investors in Vietnam. The President promised to assist future Malaysian business ventures wishing to work in Vietnam.
This year sees the fortieth anniversary of the diplomatic ties sealed between Vietnam and Malaysia. Both leaders spoke warmly of the events that are to mark the anniversary throughout the year. They gave assurances that further high powered diplomatic delegations would continue to visit each other and there would be strong co-operation between governmental departments for many years to come.
Looking beyond the two countries they spoke of regional and global issues that affect both parties. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) hold forums in the region as do the Asia-Europe Meeting(ASEM) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC). On a global scale of course The United Nations is a major player. The two leaders spoke of their desire to continue working within the frameworks provided by these organizations.
Vietnam is moving forward rapidly as a developing major player in regional and global economical issues. Business here is booming and the major cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City enjoy an excellent world wide reputation. These kind of meetings can only further enhance that reputation.
The evening saw a grand banquet in honor of Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and his traveling delegation. Relations between the two nations really are on a solid footing. Earlier in the day the Sultan enjoyed a meeting with Party General Secretary, Mr Nguyen Phu Trong. At that meeting, Mr Trong expressed his great pleasure at Vietnam’s continued policies engendering friendship and co-operation with, not just Malaysia, but all countries in the region.
The talks throughout the day moved smoothly as The Malaysian leader congratulated Vietnam on what he described as its great achievements in Socio-economic development. He also praised the country’s growing position in regional and global arenas. For his part General Secretary Trong expressed his desire for both sides to continue these kind of diplomatic meetings, and to expand and develop trade, investment, culture, tourism and trade exchanges.
This is seen as further strengthening the already booming tourism within the region. Mr Tran Truong, CEO of Asia Tourism Advisor said, “This is yet another great piece of news for our industry. Closer worker bonds between these two great nations will benefit both.”
