Hanoi, Vietnam -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/08/2013 -- While markets in the West mainly in Europe, The USA and Australia are struggling, the attractive currency rates and international flights are making Vietnam extremely popular with tourists from abroad. Annual international tourism has risen by an incredible 500% since 1995 and 2012 saw 6.84 million visitors. Annual tourism is now worth more than $5Billion to the Vietnamese economy. It now represents more than a third of the countries total economy.
The friendliness of the Vietnamese people coupled with the massive investment in new build hotels has since the country growing strongly compared to its Southeast Asian neighbors.
Flights from the USA are just a little over $1000 and from Australia they start at about $700, whilst UK flights start from around £450. These figures compare very favorably with other countries in the region.
Vietnam has much to offer the foreign traveler with 31 National parks and 8 World Heritage sites. In recent years figures from UK visitors have seen huge growth.
Mr. Tran Truong, CEO Asia Tour Advisor (ATA) says, “ Years ago British people in particular would visit Thailand and possibly Cambodia but not Vietnam. I am glad to report that in recent years this trend has changed completely and we are now welcoming thousands of people from the UK. Whilst Australian visitors have risen by 130% in recent years.”
Holiday makers are always pleasantly surprised by prices in shops, restaurants and bars. Buying a beer for 20 cents and a coffee for less than a dollar has not been possible in Western countries for decades. Whilst the spectacular Ha Long Bay is still the number one tourist attraction there are many others to visit. As Mr Tran puts it, “From the scuba diving at Nha Trang, through our beautiful scenic countryside and on to our major cities like Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi, we have much to offer the foreign visitor. I am proud to say that people visiting our country are guaranteed a warm welcome and a fine vacation.”
And the figures of course back him up. The growth is extraordinary and not really surprising. Vietnam is a vibrant country with plenty to offer anyone taking a vacation. Add to that the attractive prices and the favorable exchange rates and it is no wonder that this once quiet almost forgotten country in Southeast Asia is rapidly becoming so popular.
