Villas Construction Booms in Dubai Municipality Reports Victory Construction Products

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/01/2013 -- The new figures released by the Dubai Municipality showed that more than half were new villas. That constitutes nearly 13,000 total constructions, of the permitted 23,000, were the villas.

Over 3,300 of the villas were multistory buildings, while 2,100 were for industrial buildings. The remainder were for commercial villas, facilities, and floor additions.

"These numbers indicate the revival of construction industry," said Yusuf Abdullah, acting director of buildings department at the authority.

A spokesperson for the municipality did not provide immediate access to total figures from the previous year. Ian Albert, who is regional director for real-estate company Colliers International, stated that construction appeared to be on the increase, overall.

"People are more optimistic," he said. "There's certainly more construction going on than previous years. There's more confidence about the market and the longevity of what seems to be the recovery.”

Albert also speculated that the reason for the number of villas being so large would be due to the focus on building additional housing for Emiratis.

The city stated that there were nearly 12,000 building under construction over the last year, and that 2,421 completion certificates had been issued within the municipality over the 2012 fiscal year.

It was reported that 197 sites were demolished over the last year, while 100,000 sites were under inspection across the entirety of the emirate.

"The civic body undertakes all these procedures and inspections to confirm the safety of buildings and protect the lives of public in line with the vision to create an excellent city that provides essence of success and comfort of sustainable living," said Abdullah.
