In 1969, students successfully defended their college campus from an armed military force, so their civil rights would not be taken.
Greensboro, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/24/2013 -- "Walls that Bleed: The Story of the Dudley-A&T Uprising" is a documentary film about the most successful student-lead uprising in the history of the United States of America. The events took place in Greensboro, North Carolina, in May of 1969.
The uprising started with a simple high school student election at all-black James B. Dudley High School. A student was refused the right to run for his high school's Student Council presidency by the school administration. They felt that the student's radical views toward the status quo (which were nonviolent) were not as conservative as they would like for them to be in a student leader. After the school administration refused a successful student write-in campaign, the students utilized their democratic right to protest the school administration after being stripped of their voting privileges. As the protest ensued, it spread over to the local Historically Black College: North Carolina A&T State University.
The purpose of this CrowdFunding campaign is to help showcase the importance of young people and how they have the power to direct society in a positive way. A "Grassroots Foot Soldier" is a person who sees that something is bigger than themselves and wants to make a change for the better. A "Grassroots Foot Soldier" wants to tell the truth about the injustices that we are faced with today and challenge their elected officials to keep the promises they made when they were elected. This is a story of a Grassroots community mobilizing for Grassroots causes and working together for the betterment of their community.
One of the challenges Voir Dire Productions could potentially face is getting the project on a National Broadcast Network. Other issue that they could face is that they only interviewed people from Greensboro, North Carolina. Some have made comments that the film is too "regional" in scope.
