Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (NYSE:AAP) shares jumped 16.56% to $96.16. The company, on Oct. 16, plans to buy closely held General Parts International Inc for just over $2 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The deal, expected to be announced Wednesday, would create one of North America's largest after-market auto parts retailer, the Journal said. The combination of Advance Auto Parts and General Parts would create a company with $9.2 billion in annual sales, comparable in size to the market's current biggest player, AutoZone Inc, according to the newspaper.

Nuance Communications Inc.(NASDAQ:NUAN) shares declined 1.55% to $17.42. The company on Oct. 10 announced the availability of the Dragon Drive-powered Mercedes News App in Mercedes-Benz vehicles, allowing drivers to listen to articles from a number of different news channels while keeping the hands on the wheel and the eyes on the road.
Additionally, the company on Oct. 8 announced the appointments of Brett Icahn and David Schechter to the Company's Board of Directors, effective immediately. Icahn and Schechter are Co-Managers of the Sargon Portfolio, a designated portfolio of assets within the various private investment funds comprising the Investment segment of Icahn Enterprises L.P.
