This Crowdfunding project is raising money to edit, design, publish, and market nonfiction book about Carlos Coronado's.
New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/16/2013 -- Carlos Coronado is writing a book about the life he experienced while serving in the military as gay man during the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Policy. The book, to be called "You Ask, I Tell: Being Gay and Getting Away with It", is a first-hand account of the fine line LGBT service-members walked to be out and proud while still complying with military law. The motivation for writing this book came from the countless times Carlos met someone in a bar, a restaurant, a party, wherever and mentioned told he used to be in the military. He would find himself answering the same questions over and over again.
After recalling countless experiences about places he went and people he encountered all over the world, Carlos decided it was only fitting to put it all in a book and share it en masse. He started writing the book in April of this year and finished writing this past month. Prior to submitting the book to his editor, the manuscript stood at 235 pages and over 85K words. He could tell someone how much of a relief it has been to get all of these life experiences off of his chest….sort of a catharsis.
Getting picked up by a publishing company is something that happens by sheer luck, so he has gone at this alone, writing his manuscript independently with the goal of publishing on Amazon.com and marketing the book himself. The one drawback is the cost. Whether it is editing, graphic design, or marketing, indie publishing can cost several thousands of dollars. The estimate for getting the book published is somewhere in the range of $6000. Publishing this book is something that has been years in the making. With support, he can finally make it a reality.
This campaign will receive all funds raised even if it does not reach its goal. Funding duration: September 29, 2013 - November 20, 2013 (11:59pm PT).
