Award-Winning Filmmaker Nildo Essa Seeks $253,000 for Production of the Brats: The First Full Length Animated Movie Created in Mozambique
The Brats Are Off on An Adventure to Save Granny and Foil the Sneaky Plans of a Greedy Company and Need Your Help!
Maputo, Mozambique -- (SBWire) -- 09/16/2014 --This fun-filled animation movie features The Brats Team (Lili, Gordo and Stretch) are chosen to compete in the finals in an off-road racing competition in Tete, Mozambique. The kids take off for Tete but take the time to enjoy a few days at the Estate of Lili's Granny. The Brats learn Granny has fallen very ill and discover she was poisoned. Conventional medicine cannot save Granny and according to local legends there is only one plant that can save her.
This sets the stage for their grand adventure to save granny. What follows is a journey The Brats never expected; they not only need to save Lili’s Granny they also find themselves battling a powerful multinational corporation that stands in their way.
The Brats (aka Os Pestinhas), is an original in-house project that started three years ago. The main goal of Nildo’s studio is stories that are as educational as they are fun thanks to the magic of animation. The Brats movie project revolves around the lives of three young but very inquisitive and brave little heroes. The underlying message of this movie is to teach young people that the challenges we all face every day can be overcome.
A short clip of “The Brats” – just 12 minutes long – was produced with practically no money or outside support. Driven purely by passion, Nildo’s studio pulled off the impossible; it was the official selection in several film festivals around the world and was nominated for the Best Animation of 2014 Award by The Africa Movie Academy Awards.
Knowing he has a winning movie on his hands, Nildo has turned to crowdfunding to fund The Brats Movie because it’s virtually impossible to raise the amount of money he needs in Mozambique. The crowdfunding goal of $253,000 may seem high until one takes into account the fact that Despicable Me 2 is considered one of the cheapest animation films ever produced (according to Hollywood standards) with an eye-popping budget of over $76 million.
