These rules have been brought in effect for flights plying on routes from 7 major Middle Eastern countries as US authorities have asked airlines to put up public notices on their websites informing passengers to adhere to this new requirement. As made clear by Homeland Security Secretary- John Kelly and Transport Security Administration (Act.) Administrator- Huban Gowadia, this recent update has been put in place in order to strengthen security procedures for passengers on flights from certain airports of Mid-eastern countries.

The airports where this ban will be strictly imposed are Ataturk International Airport in Turkey; Cairo International Airport in Egypt; Queen Alia Airport in Jordan; King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh of Saudi Arabia; Doha International Airport in Qatar; Mohammed V International Airport in Morocco; Kuwait International Airport in Kuwait; and Abu Dhabi International Airport and Dubai International Airports in UAE.
