Network Drops Explains Total Internal Reflection

Allentown, NJ -- (SBWire) -- 05/11/2016 --In an article just released via their website, the distinguished voice and data cabling provider to Monmouth County, NJ area businesses, Network Drops, explained the mechanics behind the scientific phenomenon that makes fiber optic technology possible. The company's CEO, Scott Fcasni, used scuba diving underwater as an example to easily explain the physics.

According to Fcasni, if a person swimming through the ocean with a laser pointer decides to shine it toward the surface, the angle at which he or she does so will dictate a variety of outcomes for what ultimately happens to that light. If the diver points it at a certain angle, the light will refract out and into the air, while another angle will allow that light to reflect back into the water.

Total internal reflection occurs when the light is pointed at an angle allowing it to infinitely reflect off the surface, down toward the "ocean floor" (which is the opposing surface), back up into the water toward the initial surface, and onward, keeping the light totally contained in the water. Optical fiber uses the same method to transmit data through cables lined with mirrors via light, moving that information at rapid speeds.

"We don't just sell fiber optic cables at Network Drops. We truly find the science behind what we do fascinating, and we wanted to share how it works with people," said Fcasni on the article.

The company provides a variety of network cables and network infrastructure consulting for businesses in Mercer County, NJ and elsewhere in the state. Those who are interested in learning more about those services can visit Network Drops' website, or call 609-447-0941.
