Lehi, UT -- (SBWire) -- 08/04/2014 --OnlineJobs.PH, the number one online staffing website in the Philippines has proudly sponsored this year's Startup Weekend Davao. The move is aimed at supporting the Philippine technical and creative communities in activities that boost their skills and allows them to showcase their talents in the world stage.

John Jonas, founder of OnlineJobs.Ph says the event, which took place on August 1-3, 2014 at Ateneo de Davao University, Davao City, Philippines, mirrors the company's belief in supporting Filipino online professionals and encouraging them to form their own startup. He also applauds Davao City for organizing events like this that allow participants outside of Metro Manila to experience a world renowned event.

Additionally, Jonas believes that being visible in events like this will help establish OnlineJobs.PH as the premier source of Filipino online professionals.

Startup Weekend is an entrepreneurial boot camp where everyone from developers, web designers, internet marketers, and entrepreneurs or anyone else who would want to put up a startup have a whole weekend to conceptualize, brainstorm, cleanup, revise and present a startup. The participants get to share their ideas, form teams, build products, launch startup companies, and hone the talents of Filipino workers from different fields.

Through the 54-hour activity, participants get to see how it's done and then do it themselves. This is an intense hands on experience which would allow startups to germinate and be pushed out on to the real world. Getting their hands on a project, the participants will learn the skills necessary to replicate the process once the event is finished. It is meant to teach, show, and inspire by doing the action themselves.

By encouraging Filipinos to immerse themselves in the experience of building a start-up, Jonas believes this would make Filipinos more knowledgeable and better equipped at aiding entrepreneurs worldwide in creating, building and expanding their own businesses.

There would be no expectations as to the initial knowledge. The end result, however would be for each participant to have their own startup at the end of the three-day event. During the event, they will have feedback from other participants, network with companies, as well as mentoring from CEOs and other successful entrepreneurs.

Besides the knowledge they gained, the participants also received freebies which can help them realize their startup dreams, including a free one year .CO domain registration; $100 voucher from Amazon Web Services, $500 from Google Cloud Platform to help in building a website; and a free 3-month Balsamiq account. Participants also got the chance to win free AirBnB merchandise items. Limited edition items from Google Entrepreneur and AirBnB were also up for grabs. The event fees included breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“Participating in the Startup Weekend makes you a winner. It doesn't automatically mean that you'll have your own business after the weekend, but you'll take away so much from the experience. You'll learn the basics you'll need to firm up your startup plans and find the network you need to make it all come true. However, remember that in case you do not succeed the first time, there's still a wealth of online employment opportunities you can explore. Sometimes, your dreams do not always come true on the first try. You just have to keep working on it day by day,” said Jonas.
