Anaheim, CA -- (SBWire) -- 09/01/2016 --Penhall Technologies adds Private Utility Locating to its service line nationwide, helping customers avoid possible monetary costs and loss of life.

Since 1957, Penhall Company has been the most trusted company in concrete cutting, coring, and demolition work. In 2001, the concrete experts introduced concrete scanning using ground penetrating radar (GPR) as a service throughout its branches. In January 2016, Penhall Technologies, a division of Penhall Company, was launched dedicated to expanding GPR services to increase value to all Penhall customers.

In March of this year, Penhall Technologies further expanded its GPR scanning service line and introduced private utility locating nationwide. Penhall Technologies can scan, locate, and mark utilities on private properties for commercial, industrial, and residential customers. According to the Common Ground Alliance, there are more than 20 million miles of buried utilities in the United States. The most common underground utilities are electrical, water, gas, communication, sewer and storm drain lines/utilities.

When conducting a single utility survey, multiple types of utility lines made of various materials may exist in the concrete or ground. Because of this, different techniques and tools must be used to correctly locate and identify lines. Penhall Technologies' GPR Analysts work with both Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Radio Detection (RD) locating equipment.

GPR is an ideal technology to locate in-ground utilities of all kinds of materials since GPR has the ability to respond to both metallic and non-metallic objects. Penhall Technologies' analysts use the GSSI 400 MHz GPR antenna and Utility cart to detect plastic, concrete, and metal pipes, like gas, sewer, and sprinkler lines, or electrical conduits.

For metal objects such as pipes and cables, Penhall Technologies' analysts also use the SPX RD 7100 radio detection equipment (RD) to ensure maximum accuracy. Radio detection equipment consists of a receiver and transmitter that can sense passive signals and radio frequencies. The RD equipment can be used to locate utility lines like electricity, fiber optics, natural gas, telephones, and cable television. Additionally, RD technology can often locate storm drains and water main lines. Penhall Technologies' analysts use both RD and GPR technology for optimum accuracy in the field while locating private utilities.

Striking an underground utility can be absolutely disastrous. The cost of hitting an underground utility can range in the thousands of dollars and, more importantly, can cause injury or even death. Unlike the publicly funded 811 Call Before You Dig, which locates publically owned utility lines such as gas, fiber optics, and water, Penhall Technologies can take on projects of larger scale, locate privately owned utilities at residences, commercial and industrial buildings, and privately funded roads or bridges. Utility locating is absolutely vital prior to any large or small in-ground digging, cutting or coring event. Penhall Technologies utility locating services will keep your project safe, on time and on budget.

Penhall Technologies is already taking their customers by storm with utility locating projects. Recently, at one of the largest U.S. aluminum and titanium forging suppliers, a site manager had to share, "Just a quick note to say thank you for another job well done! Mark was a pleasure to work with, was very thorough, detailed and comprehensive in his work and I am (100%) confident in his findings."
