Raleigh, NC -- (SBWire) -- 04/09/2014 --April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Raleigh preschool, Primary Beginnings, is showing their support by planting their own Pinwheel Garden!

National Child Abuse Prevention Month began in April 1982, in response to the growing concern for child abuse and neglect. Since then, governmental and associated organizations have come together to spread awareness about the negative effects of unresolved child abuse.

Child abuse comes in a variety of forms and includes physical, sexual, emotional and fetal abuse and neglect. The effects of child abuse are longstanding and can lead to academic failure, health issues and increased crime and violence rates.

To give communities the opportunity to show their support in the prevention of child abuse, the Pinwheel Garden was started.

The Pinwheel Garden is a way for organizations and the community to show their support for healthy educational development and growth of children. The pinwheel, when shining in the sun, reflects the bright future that all children deserve. The garden was started in April 2008, with over 900,000 pinwheels planted nationwide since its beginning.

Primary Beginnings is supporting National Child Abuse Prevention Month and has planted Pinwheel Gardens at both of their preschool locations.
