Pasadena, CA -- (SBWire) -- 01/25/2011 -- Fortune magazine has said that the top 100 companies in the country have around 150,000 openings. The results are from its annual “100 Best Companies to Work For List”.
The survey also includes which jobs are high paying and which companies are best to work for in terms of salary and other benefits. There are 25 companies that have openings of 700 and more, and they alone account for 137,000 jobs.
Although many of the companies are in the hi-tech industry, there are openings in other industries such as retail and manufacturing. NetApp, a data storage company, has over 2,500 openings. Most of the openings are in the engineering and sales departments. Salesforce.com has among the highest salaries for its sales staff, including a bonus of 140% of the target payout given out twice a year.
The figures given by Fortune are supported by the fact that the country has seen its lowest jobless rate in the last two years. This is from the latest jobs report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Consumer confidence is also at a 7-year high and 42% of companies are planning on hiring more workers in the next six months. This data is from the National Association of Business Economics.
A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of EmploymentCrossing, says it’s not just the Fortune 100 who are hiring in huge numbers again. “We have been able to get over 650,000 job postings from employer websites and other sources in the last seven days. Most of the openings are in small and medium sized companies all over the country.” EmploymentCrossing is a job aggregator website.
