Ankeny, IA -- (SBWire) -- 01/29/2014 --While Julie Ann isn’t yet a household name, she’s one of the few people to take the tough choice of exposing her own tumultuous story for the benefit of others. Her new memoir, ‘The Flutter of Butterfly Wings: A True Story of Friendship, Love, and Obsession’, places a bold focus on the true impact of ‘insignificant’ daily life decisions.
Throwing readers deep into the college way of life, Julie Ann recounts the seemingly unimportant decisions she made during dating, relationships, parties and classes, decisions that would ultimately change the course of her life forever.
Synopsis:
For Julie, her college experience consisted of a conflicting duality: her hilarious, inseparable friendship with Kaytie and her obsessive lust for Matt. After a man breaks into Julie’s home and attempts to rape her, the fantasies of her oblivion tangle with reality. No one is as she thinks, including her best friend. When Julie makes a shocking revelation, she struggles with a life-altering decision, one that exposes her vulnerability and true self.
This courageous and candid memoir marks the debut of a writer whose reflection demonstrates how seemingly insignificant details of our lives can dramatically impact our future selves. It’s a story about letting go of regret, appreciating our past, forgiving our faults, and embracing our authenticity.
The Flutter of Butterfly Wings reminds us that life offers us infinite paths, and we can never know when or how our choices alter future existence.
As the author explains, everyone can relate to her story.
“While my own personal journey through life is unique to me, I’ve faced the same struggles as most others. For example, the conflict between who we think we are and how the world actually perceives us or the impact day-to-day decisions can have on our entire life. It’s these facets I place a focus on. The memoir style can be an immensely powerful tool for helping others relate to their own lives,” says Julie Ann.
Continuing, “I also highlight a number of controversies relevant to today’s society, such as the difficulty of proving someone is stalking you, how women can become more victimized if they speak out about rape, how promiscuous girls and guys are treated very differently, how low self-esteem can destroy relationships and a myriad of other issues. I’ve battled them all – and I know millions of others are, too.”
To date, the book has garnered a string of rave reviews. For example, Noelle Korth comments, “Julie gives us a rare glimpse inside of a complicated friendship, a complicated relationship, and a terrifying experience that changes her and how she will see the world forever. A must-read for young women everywhere!”
Carol Handwerk was equally as impressed, adding, “Julie Ann's analysis could have led to paralysis, but instead motivated her to look within and discover her strengths. I rated 5 stars because the premise of betrayal is universal and easily relatable.”
