These are organosulfur compounds which are important in two areas, mining for the extraction of certain ores and manufacturing of cellophane and other cellulose related polymers, primarily in the packaging industry. They are also used in the processing of minerals as floatation agents and serve as intermediates in the Chugaev elimination process. They are also used for controlling radical polymerization under the RAFT (Reversible Addition-Fragmentation chain Transfer) process.
