John, now 76, has bred more than 1,279 rhinos in his lifetime, and after personally investing US$100 million into this cause, he has reached the end of his financial wherewithal to continue.

BDR has recently had to give notice to the private army of foot soldiers who currently protect their rhinos, as they can no longer afford their services.
