Dr. Robert Singer Turns Back the Clock with Mini-Facelift Procedures

Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Robert Singer discusses the benefits of a mini-facelift with eHealth Radio.

La Jolla, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/27/2018 -- Many do not fully understand the difference between a mini-facelift procedure and a full facelift. While both treatments have similarities and may be beneficial for the appropriate patient, they are separated by distinct qualities. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Singer explains that a mini-facelift procedure isn't necessarily for everyone.

A full facelift procedure focuses on many areas, including the upper face, midface, and the lower portion of the face and neck. A mini-facelift turns its attention to improving the central third of the face and the neck – from cheeks to the jowls. The procedure needs to be individualized from patient to patient and each doctor has their own technique. The skill of the doctor performing the surgery as well as the anatomy of the patient influences the overall experience.

Dr. Singer firmly believes that one of the most important aspects of a mini-facelift procedure is customize it for each patient; because the natural aging process, genes, lifestyle, and sun exposure will vary. Results will vary and no two patients are the same,so it is imperative to fit the appropriate procedure to the patient, not the patient to the procedure.

Ideal candidates for the mini-facelift are those who have just started to notice signs of aging, individuals in their 40s or early 50s, or someone who has previously had surgery and could now benefit from a second, smaller procedure. Dr. Singer notes that if too much aging on the face has already occurred, then a mini-facelift would not be appropriate. It is also necessary to remember that a mini-facelift or any facelift will turn back the clock, not stop it. Though results are permanent, and patients will always look better and fresher than not having the surgery performed, the aging process will continue to take place.

During the recovery process, it is important to have realistic expectations and listen to and follow all of your doctor's instructions. Common post-procedure side-effects include bruising, swelling, and a restriction on strenuous activities. Most patients heal within seven days to two weeks. Results will continue to improve for the next few months.
