German Association for Data Protection Provides Expert External Data Protection Officers in Accordance with EU's New Data Protection Regulation

Dachau, Germany -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/27/2018 -- EU's new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is set to replace the previous directive from 1995 as of May 25 2018. According to the new Regulation, all public authorities except courts and many other organisations will be required to appoint a Data Protection Officer. Data Protection Officers, or DPOs, will play a key role in ensuring that the companies comply with the new Regulation and avoid risks when processing personal data. This way, small and medium sized businesses can make sure they avoid paying significant fines, that can come as high as 20 million EUR.

According to Article 37(5) of EU's new Regulation a data protection officer "shall be designated on the basis of professional qualities and, in particular, expert knowledge of data protection law and practices…". German Association for Data Protection, as one of the leaders in German and European data protection, provides external data protection officers for companies from different industries, tailoring their offer according to individual requirements.

"As a Data Protection Officer, I accompany our clients on the way to a secure Data Protection Concept." says Prof. Dr. h.c. Heiko Jonny Maniero, external data protection officer and data protection auditor of German Association for Data Protection.

The Association's external data protection officers lay the foundations by carrying out the actual state analysis of the client, conducting a data protection audit and creating a directory of processing activities. The directory describes which personal data and in which way is processed, thus representing the cornerstone of the client's future transparency. Furthermore, the German Association for Data Protection provides clients with online trainings and generates the data protection documentation, all according to EU's new General Data Protection Regulation. The Association's external data protection officer then reviews all data protection-relevant procedures, suggesting and explaining recommendations and improvement measures. External DPO of the German Association for Data Protection further creates a data protection handbook, which describes the processes as well as all policies, service instructions and data protection concepts.

The DPO's role is an important innovation and a cornerstone of the accountability-based compliance framework of EU's General Data Protection Regulation. The data protection officer will not only try to ensure the compliance with the Regulation, but also act as an intermediary between company's relevant stakeholders, such as supervisory authorities, data subjects and company's different business units. Article 38 of the Regulation further points out that the data protection officer should also be 'involved properly and in a timely manner' in all issues relating to the protection of personal data.

Come May 25th, many businesses will need a Data Protection Officer. In order to meet the EU's extensive new General Data Protection Regulation, companies should lean on professionals in the field. External data protection officers of German Association for Data Protection possess the needed knowledge, expertise and experience for the task.
