Owner Appel of Hearth & Hedgerow Wins 2018 Interior Design Award from Philadelphia Interior Design Awards

Quakertown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/24/2018 -- Kathy Appel recently received a 2018 IDA Honorable Mention award for a bathroom remodel.

She received the award in the category Residential Bath under $50,000. Ms. Appel owns Hearth & Hedgerow, an interior design and landscaping service covering Philadelphia and Bucks County as well as surrounding counties in Pennsylvania. The awards competition organized by the Philadelphia Interior Design Awards are open to interior designers from the greater Philly region.

Ms. Appel said to even be in the running for the award is significant, considering the quality and number of companies that are nominated.

"The IDAs spotlight extraordinary interior design talent in the greater Philadelphia Region, and I'm honored to be recognized for my work," she said. "We overcame a number of challenges with this project to help the client create the space they were dreaming of."

Hearth and Hedgerow explains the bathroom remodel on their website.

The IDAs began in 2010 and are presented every other year. Companies doing work in the greater Philadelphia Region, Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Delaware County, parts of NJ and the state of Delaware are eligible. Interior designers need not be a member of a national or regional association to be eligible.

"The IDAs were created to put a spotlight on regional interior designers. So many people think you must go to New York or LA to get the very best in interior design. That's just not the case. We have world-class designers right here," she said. "These awards prove that. All of the winners can hold their own against designers from anywhere else."

Blind judging is done by experts from across the country. The judges include prominent architects, interior designers, university professors and editors of interior design publications. The judges are not announced until the winners are revealed.

Each category has one winner and may have one honorable mention if the second highest scoring design work is close enough to the winner.

"Receiving honorable mention is a tremendous accomplishment as this is not a guaranteed award in any category," Ms. Appel said. "Even more important than this award is how the client feels about the new bathroom. They were ecstatic with the results and that is our true reward. Having that backed up by experts and industry professionals is a welcome bonus."

Awards were presented in mid-April at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia.
