Wyomissing, PA -- (SBWire) -- 09/07/2018 --According to a viral Facebook thread, a Jersey Mike's employee may have been fired from her job simply because she was pregnant. Resident Kameisha Denton believes that she lost her job at the Jersey Mike's in New Marysville, Washington after she informed her employer that she would be taking maternity leave soon — and she took to Facebook to ask if this practice was legal.

In the thread, a text message allegedly sent by her manager told her that she was being terminated from her position because now "is not a good time for [the company] to have someone who is leaving for maternity leave in several months anyways." The texts reveal that the manager also chided Denton for failing to reveal that she was pregnant during her initial interview. A report from 11 Alive News revealed that the manager in question resigned from his position following the instance.

Workplace discrimination attorneys in Philadelphia know that according to the Pregnancy Discrimination Act passed in 1978, it is illegal for employers to fire an employee on the basis of maternal status. Philadelphians who believe that they have been fired after becoming pregnant may have a claim against their employer for workplace discrimination.

Residents who have found themselves on the receiving end of workplace discrimination or an illegal dismissal are encouraged to seek counsel from a team of employment attorneys in Philadelphia. Men and women who believe that they may have a workplace discrimination case are encouraged to contact the team at Kozloff Stoudt Attorneys by calling 610-370-6700 to discuss the next steps in their case.
