A Human-Powered Ocean Race to Alaska Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Now Seeking Community Support via Kickstarter, Andrew Akehurst is an Inspiring Canadian Adventurer Building a 22-Foot Rowing Sailboat to Enter into the Race To Alaska!

Victoria, BC -- (SBWire) -- 11/08/2018 --Andrew Akehurst is a British Columbia based Canadian adventurer and entrepreneur, who proudly owns a small woodworking/shipwright business called Little Island Woodworks. He loves to explore, and he has therefore decided to embark upon a journey like no other. To make his dream of sailing to Alaska and entering into an ocean race, he is building a 22-foot rowing sailboat and he is seeking help via Kickstarter's crowdfunding platform to build that boat.

"I need your help to build a 22-foot rowing sailboat to enter into the Race To Alaska with my friend Ben Turner." Said Andrew Akehurst, while introducing his project to the Kickstarter community. "This race is full of risks and adventure on a boat, with a chance of drowning, being run down by a freighter, or eaten by a grizzly bear, and there are squalls, killer whales, tidal currents that run upwards of 20 miles an hour." He added.

The race will start from Port Townsend, Washington and will finish in Ketchikan, Alaska, the only rule to follow in this race is 'no motorized propulsion'. Moreover, he will be filming the entire race for the backers and he is welcoming everyone for generous support. The project aims at raising a sum of CA$ 12,000 and the Kickstarter campaign is already creating a major buzz.

The Kickstarter Campaign is located on the web at:

http://bit.ly/boatracetoalaska and backers from around the world can help Andrew by making generous pledges and donations. Besides raising money for the race, the project will also raise funds for the goal of opening a Community Boatbuilding Workshop. Andrew is offering a wide range of rewards with worldwide shipping for the backers on Kickstarter. More details are available on the Kickstarter campaign page of the project.
