Living a Healthy Lifestyle

A healthy life equals better wellbeing and less risk of diseases associated with unhealthy diets and lifestyles. Therefore good nutrition, exercise and discipline go a long way in maintaining good health.

London, England -- (SBWire) -- 10/04/2011 --You hear a lot about living a healthy lifestyle, but what does that mean? In general, a healthy person doesn't smoke, is at a healthy weight, eats healthy and exercises. Sounds simple of course but at times is difficult to do. The best way to go about living a healthy lifestyle is by making small changes. For example like taking the stairs, adding fruit to your cereal, having an extra glass of water are a few ways you can start getting healthier without taking drastic steps.

One of the biggest problems is lack of activity. Long office hours and desk jobs render us inactive and a lot of the time we spend is being sedentary or afraid that exercise has to be vigorous to be worth our time. The truth is, movement is movement and the more you do, the healthier you'll be. Even moderate activities like chores, gardening and walking can make a difference. Green living advocates using bicycles and walking when you can so adopting a green lifestyle can also inadvertently lead to a healthy lifestyle. Just adding some movement to your everyday routine can help maintain flexibility as you age, maintain bone mass, improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and reduce stress.

Simple ways to stay healthy and fit are play games, take a walk, almost anything will be more active than sitting on the couch. Try to walk more, take the dog for an extra outing each day or walk on your treadmill for 5 minutes before getting ready for work. Doing more chores, working in the garden, raking leaves, sweeping the floor, these kinds of activities can help with fitness and mobility as well as keep you healthier.

Good nutrition and alternative therapies also count of course. Eating a healthy diet is another part of the healthy lifestyle. Not only can a clean diet help with weight management, it can also improve your health and quality of life as you get older. Always try to eat more fruit, sneak in more veggies, a tomato on your sandwich, peppers on your pizza, or extra veggies in your pasta sauce.

Look through your cabinets or fridge and pick 3 foods you eat every day. Write down the nutritional content and, the next time you're at the store, find lower-calorie substitutes for just those 3 items. Small things like this can go a long way. Every time you feel peckish have handy nuts, seeds and dried fruits on your work desk. Always have a banana in your lunch box or a apple and this way you will get into the habit of healthy snacking.

Creating a healthy lifestyle doesn't have to mean drastic changes. In fact, drastic changes almost always lead to failure. Making small changes in how you live each day can lead to big rewards, so figure out what you can to be healthy today.
