Pittsburgh's Unemployment Rate Decreases, EmploymentCrossing Finds over 35,000 Jobs in the City

Pittsburgh's unemployment rate is fifth-lowest among Pennsylvania's 14 metro regions.

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWire) -- 12/06/2011 --According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry's report, Pittsburgh's unemployment rate has remained constant with 0.5 percent decline since the last two months finishing at 7 percent in October.

Pittsburgh's unemployment rate is fifth-lowest among Pennsylvania's 14 metro regions. The growth in Pittsburg has completely been in most service sectors like higher education and health services, which is up by 5,000, local education adding 4,200 jobs, professional/technical which rose up by 1,100 and retail trade rising by 1,900. Education and health have helped Pittsburgh region strengthen, which have further helped it survive better than many states of the United States during the economic downturn of 2007.

Christoper Magaro, an industry and business analyst with the Center for Workforce Information and Analysis in Harrisburg said, "Those super sectors (education and health services) continue to grow." There are now total 191,200 jobs in healthcare and social assistance in the Pittsburgh region, 126,900 jobs in retail trade, all of leisure and hospitality combined to 111,900 and all 127,800 government jobs.
