Need of Wireless Energy Transfer Technology to Promote Growth in the Wireless Power Transmission Market

The increasing need for battery-powered equipment and effective charging systems are the factors driving the growth of the wireless power transmission market. Moreover, emerging need for new wireless power transmission applications such as solar-power satellites is likely to boost the global market growth. However, interference of microwaves with current communication systems and rising prices of wireless power technology is hampering the growth of the wireless power transmission system during the forecast period. Furthermore, the rising efficiency of power transmission is projected to create favorable market conditions in the upcoming period. For instance, Samsung Galaxy that carries wireless charging capabilities is Google Nexus and Motorola Droid. The adoption in a range of smartphones in the inductive wireless power transmission market is anticipated to hoist smartphones as a larger receiver application. On the other hand, automobile manufacturers including Honda, Nissan, and Toyota Motors are focusing more on electrically charged vehicles to create greater opportunities over the years to come.

Asia Pacific Region to Contribute to Growth in the Global Wireless Power Transmission Market

The Asia Pacific held the largest share in the wireless power transmission and it is considered as the hub for consumer electronic products such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and wearable devices. Mexico is emerging as a new manufacturing hub due to low manufacturing cost and rising demand for in North American regions such as the U.S. and Canada.

FCC Approves First Wireless 'Power-At-A-Distance' Charging System

In December 2017-San Jose-based startup, Energous, announced that it has received the first such FCC certification for power-at-a-distance wireless charging with its WattUp Mid Field transmitter. The transmitter converts electricity into radio frequencies and then beams the energy to nearby devices outfitted with a corresponding receiver. The Watt Up can charge multiple devices simultaneously and should work on any number of devices, from phones and tablets to keyboards and earbuds, so long as they are outfitted with the right receiver.

Apple Files Patent for Contact-Free Wireless Charging with Optimum Power Transfer Feature

In January 2018-Apple has filed a patent for contact-less wireless charging just as Energous received FCC approval for its WattUp wire-free charging system. Apple has filed two new wireless power patent applications with the US Patent & Trademark Office that can make non-contact wireless charging mainstream on devices. However, the company opted for a common standard called Qi wireless charging that only works when the device is physically placed on a suitable charging pad or mat. FCC approval shows the first-generation wire-free charging technology called WattUp from Energous is capable of sending power through the air to devices up to three feet away.
