Brandon, MB -- (SBWire) -- 11/14/2019 --While target-chaining errors seem to be on an increase as of late, they are not really new to the QuickBooks Desktop scene. The Target Chaining errors occur immediately after running a QuickBooks rebuild on a corrupted data file.

A large data file size, slow network and insufficient RAM space can be some of the most common reasons that cause this error.

Running the Rebuild in QuickBooks often rectifies the error Proposed methods to fix this error include running "Rebuild" and waiting for the rebuild to finish. To do this, Run "Rebuild" from the location where company file is stored, choose File>Utilities> Rebuild. The second method is to Run Verify by choosing File>Utilities> Verify data and then selecting "OK" to finish the process.

If this does not work, Intuit recommends restoring a backup created prior to the Rebuild that resulted to the Target Chaining error. If you are not sure which backup to restore, open the company file and press F2 on your keyboard to bring up the Product Information screen. In the Versions used on File section and check the RB date.

Target chaining errors are often permanent and cannot be repaired. However, data can be copied to a new data file using a data migration service.
