The 3rd annual wooden bridge competition held at AUD saw the University of Bolton, RAK campus participating as the only British University to participate in the competition.

Our engineering students have yet again demonstrated their ability to collaborate and a solid work ethic in producing bridge models using readily available materials and that too in a short time span. The students put in a sterling effort in ensuring that they worked over time in getting the bridges ready for the competition. The competition has provided the platform for senior and junior students to collaborate and it is activities such as these that will provide the students with the experience necessary to work in professional firms.

Three teams participated in the competition comprising of two Mechanical Engineering teams and one Civil Engineering team led by Saad Ahmed, Omair Tanweer and Faisal Chaudhary. The bridge made by Civil Engineering team bore a load of 204kgs while others made by Mechanical Engineering teams had a load bearing capacity of 150 kgs and 100 kgs respectively.

The president of student Union, Faisal Chaudhary acknowledges the efforts of the teams and commented that ‘such competitions assist in boosting the learning curve of the students and help them apply what they have learned in classroom’ Vice President Saad Ahmed who led the teams on the field expresses his gratification at the cohesiveness between the teams and their determination to seek and achieve recognition for their alma matter.
