Trilogiq USA Talks Forklift-Free Production Site

Livonia, MI -- (SBWire) -- 10/01/2013 --The idea of transforming a manufacturing warehouse plant into a forklift-free production site can be an overwhelming thought, but guidance and ongoing solution support from Trilogiq USA can smooth the transformation in material flow to generate sustainable productivity improvements.

According the Trilogiq USA’s company blog, there are many reasons to consider implementing a forklift-free environment. One of the main concerns using forklifts is safety. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) estimates that each year in the United States, nearly 100 workers are killed and another 20,000 are seriously injured in forklift-related incidents. Forklift overturns are the leading cause of fatalities involving forklifts representing about 25% of all forklift-related deaths.

There are various causes of forklift related accidents, including operator distraction, visibility issues, and operator error – very similar to causes of road accidents. Forklift operators are constantly barraged with interruptions such as other forklifts, line operators' requests and route alterations. Visibility can be an issue as they often don’t have a clear view over obstacles or stock areas, which can lead to forklift overturns and accidental run-ins with other employees or objects.

In addition to the safety concerns, which are the most critical, there are also additional costs for operator training, plant layout restrictions due to forklift aisles, damage to facilities and parts, maintenance, and fuel that can add up quickly.

Forklifts also suffer from chronic underutilization for their intended task – the primary function of a forklift is to take advantage of vertical stacking and to transition product from alternate heights. Yet a manufacturer analyzes their forklift activity, most of the utilization is from driving horizontally, not lifting vertically.

Demonstrations of forklift-free equipment can be viewed at Trilogiq USA’s Second Annual Material Handling Solution Expo to be held on October 10th. Trilogiq USA is hosting this important conference, which will also include demonstrations of Seegrid’s flexible vision-guided automated guided vehicles (AGVs) as well as Trilogiq USA’s Automated Guided Carts, Designing Solutions with SketchUp, and CNC machine solutions.

Lunch will be served at this special event, however registration is limited and immediate reservations must be made at: http://info.trilogiqusa.com/register-today-to-attend-trilogiqs-solution-expo--open-house
