Try to pass on yawning and instead engage in a brief workout. It’s estimated that 40 to 60 percent of the population is susceptible to contagious yawns. If feeling tired, walk up and down the stairs or try a few stretches. Increased blood flow to the brain improves concentration and releases feel-good hormones that will make one feel more alert.

Experts say running for half an hour burns roughly the same calories as a 90-minute walk, proving that extensive time isn’t required to burn a lot of calories. When calories are burned, the body needs to replace some of what it has lost, and carbohydrates are not the enemy - they are the source of the energy needed for a workout. If planning a short run, carbohydrates and protein are necessary beforehand, but if planning a leisurely stroll, the energy gathered from a piece of fruit may be enough to get one through the exercise.

Finally, while some believe fitness must be started early, it’s never too late to begin a program. Fitness can be done at any age, and it’s estimated that those who do not exercise experience an 80 percent decrease in muscle strength. Of course, the sooner one begins the better, but it’s never too late to start.
