Focus on Ferals Wants to Help Cakes the Cat Beat Cancer

In a tragic turn of events a recently rescued shelter cat has been diagnosed with cancer.

Grand Rapids, MI -- (SBWire) -- 10/08/2013 --Overpopulation, underfunding, and a lack of permanent homes create a constant challenge for shelter administrators. In fact, over 67% of the total number of animals that enter the system, face euthanasia. So when Cakes the cat found a home the hope was that this would end happily ever after.

Earlier this year Focus on Ferals visited a shelter and pulled a cat that was deemed unadoptable after its owner passed away. A few weeks later a young woman contacted FOF, and offered to permanently adopt her. "Cakes the cat has absolutely blossomed under her love and care. Unfortunately she now faces another hurdle – cancer." said the Director of Focus on Ferals.

Focus on Ferals posted a public message on Facebook asking for help from the community. The first phase of the surgical process will involve removing the cancerous mass, and conducting tests to determine the next steps. So far over 2,000 people have shared the post on Facebook, but the monetarily goal has yet to be met.
