Rory James and the Majestic Raise the Bar to Craft Forthcoming Effort for Spring 2014
Rory James and The Majestic have set out to take 2014 by storm with a newly recorded album and a contributed track to WiFi PR Group’s compilation, Indie Anthems Vol. 4.

In the new year, they will not only be unleashing a new album, destined to the same success as their previous recordings, but they will be contributing a track to WiFi PR Group’s latest indie compilation, Indie Anthems Vol. 4.
With Rory James at the helm on vocals and guitar, he performs with Justin Vernon Hoffman on drums, Ian Scholley on bass, percussion and vocals, Dave Swaintek on keyboards, accordion and vocals, Chris Clemons on trumpet and Jordan Cunningham on mandolin, guitar, percussion, banjo and vocals. This unique amalgam of instrumentation lends a fresh and unique sound to the group, particularly on tracks like “End of the Road,” in an otherwise crowded genre of indie rock.
Rory James and The Majestic are most often compared to Bon Iver, Ray Lamontagne, Bob Dylan and Neil Young, all of whom they claim as musical influences, as well as Xavier Rudd, John Butler Trio and Volcano Choir. They have also been influenced over the years by groups such as The Allman Brothers and some African music, like Ali Farka Toure and Bombino.
For inspiration, Rory James reaches into the depths of his mind and pulls out commentary that delves into the wilderness and exploration, reaching new heights and the far outreaches of the heart and soul, while also feeling inspiration from injustice and his thoughts encapsulating that concept as well.
These influences and inspirations have come together to form the meaningful messages that make up singles like “Crazy” and “Fang for the Fang,” their debut The Passage (2012) as well as their forthcoming album. Their latest album aims to solidify their presence in the Seattle and national music scenes with compelling lyrics backed by thoughtful, catchy melodies and steady, driving rhythms that bounce and sway with emotion.
Rory James’ background also lends an interesting and unique layer to the group, as he is actually originally a professional baseball player who eventually answered his calling to become a singer/songwriter and form his own band. Having an athletic build, he is also 6’9”, which easily makes him one of the tallest musicians in the world.
Rory James and The Majestic have already opened for several national headlining acts, including Mega Faun and Field Report, both at Tractor Tavern in Seattle in 2012, and Charlie Parr, for whom they opened several times at a few different venues in 2013.
In addition to their new album release in early 2014, the group will also have their track “Crazy” featured on WiFi PR Group’s indie compilation, Indie Anthems Vol. 4, which will be released at SXSW in March 2014. The digital mixtape will be handed out as 3,500 download cards to SXSW attendees and then another 1500 copies will be given away via download codes on the company’s Bandcamp page.
