Spinning Car On Track Keeps Wimmer From Possible Win

Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWire) -- 05/04/2010 -- Scott Wimmer, one of NASCAR’s most dynamic and hottest racers showed the driving skill this past weekend at the Aarons 312 at the Talladega Superspeedway that has made him a fan favorite of NASCAR driving the #27 Red Man Moist Snuff Baker Curb Racing Ford Fusion. After qualifying in the 34th position in the 43 car field, Wimmer started making up ground on the field from the drop of the green flag and as the race reached the closing laps, briefly taking the lead on lap 95.

A wreck with five laps remaining forced NASCAR to implement its Green-White-Checker finish it has become famous for. On the restart, Wimmer would restart in third and hold strong in the Top-5 through the final lap with the checker in sight. As he’s rounding the final turns in third position with Joey Lagano tight on his rear bumper, the Wisconsin native was looking for that final push to the front to take home his first win of the 2010 Nationwide Series season when he was taken out on the last corner by a spinning car that also took out most of the field except for a lucky four cars that raced for the stripe. Despite this, he was still able to finish twelfth as NASCAR froze the field at the finish. This marked the third start for Wimmer in the 2010 NASCAR season, and he has led a lap in every race he has started this year. Wimmer’s next races in the #27 Red Man Moist Snuff Baker Curb Racing Ford Fusion will be at the Federated Auto Parts 300 in Nashville and the Meijer 300 at the Kentucky Speedway both in June.

The Aarons 312 at Talladega is one of NASCAR’s most prestigious races and attracted record crowds despite having to be postponed a day because of bad weather. For Wimmer, this race season has been one where he excels time and again. Earlier in the season, he was driving in the #7 Chevy Impala that Danica Patrick began the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series with. In each race, Wimmer has had a strong showing, garnering him two Top-10 finishes that has earned him praise for his driving performance from his fellow drivers, teams and fans alike.

The Federated Auto Parts 300 at the Nashville Superspeedway will be the week of June 4-5, 2010. The race is one of NASCAR’s big events drawing thousands of fans to the Music City. For Wimmer the race will be both a challenge and opportunity to show the racing world that 2010 will continue to be a year in which he is a dominant force.
