Walmart & Sam's Club Make Good on Commitment to American Manufacturing

New York, NY -- (SBWire) -- 01/31/2014 --A cutting-edge company specializing in the making of U.S.-made touchscreen cleaning wipes took a leap forward on their path to growth when Walmart and Sam’s Club announced their commitment to buy an additional $50 billion in U.S. products over the next 10 years.

“We believe in making a difference on the issues our customers and communities care about. We believe we can create more American jobs by supporting more American manufacturing,” Walmart, which owns Sam’s Club, stated on their corporate website on Jan. 15, 2013.

Bill Simon, Walmart U.S. President and CEO, wrote an opinion editorial for The Huffington Post, urging industry leaders to revive manufacturing in America, explaining how reviving U.S. manufacturing is key to rebuilding our vanishing middle class.

Among their new initiatives is a product new to the U.S. retail market - which your local warehouse store Sam’s Club has just begun testing - the iCloth: premoistened cloths made for wiping fingerprints, dirt, dust and grime from all the electronic device screens and touchscreens we use every day. Typically, competing products in this field are foreign-made, but all of the components that go into manufacturing the iCloth are proudly made and assembled in America, from California to New York.

“We’re grateful to the powerful thought-leaders who are shaping the future of the U.S. economy,” says Peter Hartlen, VP of Devonshire Industries Ltd., makers of the iCloth. “This huge initiative to bring back foreign purchases to the U.S. is changing the landscape for quality specialty manufacturers, creating an opportunity to penetrate the retail market that just wasn’t there before.”
