How to prepare?

Some people have created emergency dental kits so they can be prepared at a moments notice. Although these kits are helpful for immediate attention, they do not replace the expertise and treatment by a dentist. But here are a few things to include in an emergency kit:

- Up-to-date contact information for your dentist
- Saline solution
- Small container with a lid
- Over-the-counter pain medication (not asprin)
- Gauze or cotton balls to absorb blood

If a tooth gets complete knocked out, immediately rinse the tooth (don’t scrub) being sure to hold the tooth by the top, not to touch the root, and place it in a container of saline solution or milk to preserve it while traveling to the dentist. Preservation is key for teeth. For pain, use a warm compress to apply pressure to the area of pain until you reach the dentist.
