Research Into Mill Hill Music Complex UK's History Reveals Fascinating Facts

London, UK -- (SBWire) -- 02/06/2014 --Recent research conducted by market researchers on the successful music academy based in London, known as Mill Hill Music Complex, revealed several fascinating truths about the business’ history and their past musical affiliations. The publication of the company’s history has raised their market value and respect from clients even further.

The 1970s, 80s, and 90s: Setting up Base

This London-based music school and equipment hire firm opened its doors to clients for the first time back in 1979. In the past 35 years, it has flourished and become one of the biggest facilities for musical training and performances in London. More than 1000 musicians pass through its 18 studios every week.

“It is incredible to think that we opened our first studio 34 years ago. We specifically opened on valentines day, so we could ask all the fittest girls we knew along and ply them with cheap cider. The plan worked a treat ! It worked so well that we're still going 35 years later, even though the girls are all Grandma's now.” Roger Tichborne, Owner

It began out of a rundown caretaker’s cottage in the 1970s and was used a hang-out space by members of a punk band called The False Dots. The company first legitimate client was Polecats, the then Rockabilly icon of the UK. This was followed soon by renowned guitarist, Alan Warner, of The Foundations. All the company had to offer then was borrowed and collected gear from their friends in the name of hire equipment. The leaps and bounds that the company made through the 80s and 90s were surprising too. The next 2 decades saw expansion from a one-room studio into 12 rooms and a consistent stream of clients. This meant that their studios were always booked. Here came the call for further and faster growth.

In the 1990s, the studio remodeled and was purpose-built with appropriate recording & rehearsal equipment. A shop opened on the premises, and it was renamed ‘Mill Hill Music Mart.’ This marked the beginning of function as professional studio for record artists. Iconic past customers of the company at that time include Factory Records, Top session drummer Frank Tonto (George Michael etc), The Damned, The Foundations, and David Soul. Since its inception, this music company has been constantly vigilant in ensuring that they provide affordable, quality musical lessons and equipment hire packages. One happy customer, Ms. Bates, told us, “Thank you to @MillHillMusicCo saving the day at our MacMillan fundraiser by giving us a great charity discount on last minute equipment hire.”

Expansion in The 2000s

The 2000s came with some business tragedies in the way of loss of a key supporting member of Mill Hill Music Complex, Ernie Ferebee to pancreatic Cancer. Ever since the studio has been a big supporter of the MacMillan Cancer Charity, organising regular fundraising gigs, with stars such as Kate Nash, Lee Thompson of Madness and iconic 1970’s Rock and Roller Chris Spedding. Ernies passing saw current studio manager, Darren O’Reilly take over the reigns of running the studios.

In 2012, the organization saw a large expansion, with a new, purpose built studio block being built. The studio building was designed by award winning British designer, Derek Treadwell and the reception features a gold disc awarded to Morrissey for the album “Years of Refusal”, which had much pre production undertaken at the complex. The new studios have proven extremely popular with up and coming artists such as Modestep, Chico, London Grammar, X Factor finalists Kingsland Road as well as more established artists such as Tunde Baiyewe of Lighthouse family fame, Dell Richardson of Osibisa and the Lee Thompson Ska Orchestra.

Their client base continued to grow and include popular names on the music scene. Today, the company has established itself as a market leader. More than 100 different bands see the studio per week, from all different genres and levels. Key community groups, such as Drumming Collective, and charities, like The Challenge, and international celebrities are all fans of Mill Hill Music Complex today.
