Ninegate Online Is a New Math Fantasy E-Learning Project for Kids

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWire) -- 03/13/2014 --Vicki Guan, a University of Pennsylvania graduate, recently announced the launch of a campaign for her new e-learning project, Ninegate Online, a fantasy story with plot twists and mysteries that help children master elementary and middle school math skills. Students join Luke and Ekul, the main characters, as they explore the imaginary world of Ninegate in search of Luke's older sister, Kyra—a journey that takes them through many adventures.

Ninegate Online draws influence from Khan Academy and Singapore Math. It uses serialized animated lessons and social gaming to teach children a variety of skills. Each lesson contains plot-related sections and math sections to make learning math skills much more enjoyable and fun. Additionally, the characters use conversation and interactions to walk children through logical reasoning.

Ninegate Online also involves parents in their child’s development. At the end of each lesson, the videos include a Parent and Teacher corner where lessons are explained to adults. The creators discuss what specific skills they are teaching in a particular section and why they used specific methods. They also take this time to point out worthwhile lines or moments from that day’s lesson.

However, Ninegate Online is more than just a math story. One of its goals is to teach children good habits, especially those of determination, perseverance, and accomplishing goals. It also encourages socialization by allowing groups of children to safely get online together, solve problems in a multiplayer dungeon setting, and gain experience points. These points—which are granted based on speed, accuracy, and overall performance of the group—can accumulate and be converted into real rewards at the parents’ discretion.

“We think it’s really important to get kids learning with the right mindset,” said a representative of Ninegate Online. “If they approach math with a pout, they’re very likely to not remember a thing.”

At this time, Guan is accepting contributions to help make Ninegate Online a reality. Her goal is to raise $20,000 by March 27, 2014. In exchange for pledges, Guan is offering her supporters a number of perks such as discounted access to Ninegate Online.
