Hip Hop Dance Rock Group All the Best Kids Perform Notorious B.I.G. Tribute March 10th

If you’re looking for dance-fueled hip hop with a glimmer of funk, jazz and pop, check out All the Best Kids at the Notorious B.I.G. tribute show at The Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C., March 10th plus their track on the upcoming WiFi PR Group compilation, Indie Anthems Vol. 5.

Las Vegas, NV -- (SBWire) -- 03/26/2014 --Instead of nodding your head to the beat, why not try hip hop with a heavy helping of dance rock flavor? You can do just that when you hit up The Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C., to catch local hip hop meets dance rock collective, All the Best Kids, throwing down an unforgettable tribute show to the Notorious B.I.G.

The band is comprised of Cody Valentine on vocals, Kristine Teets on vocals, Peter Bergen on keyboard, Caleb Astey on bass and percussion, Will Pierce on guitar and Jason Arrol on drums. They formed as a band in 2012 as a product of D.C.’s Flashband Project, which is an initiative in the local music community that is designed to bring musicians together to perform a single show. Thanks to a special cohesion despite a wide range of backgrounds and influences, the members clicked, and thus All the Best Kids was born.

Like with many hip hop groups, the vocalists tend to steal the show, but the band itself is a strong unit comprised of unbridled talent who tap into their deepest reserves of inspiration to create a unique and compelling sound. Cody delivers slick, pristine lines reminiscent of some of the 90s hip hop stars he admires. Kristine contributes delicate vocals that both balance and enhance the rhythms of the hip hop lyrics. On some tracks, she also sings carefully crafted lines of scat, much like a traditional or contemporary jazz singer would, which highlights some of the band’s jazzy influences. As for the rest of the band, they all contribute to what sometimes constitutes as music that is funky, sometimes poppy but all-around ready to set the audience in motion.

All the Best Kids name a wide range of musical influences, from Jay-Z, Nas and Outkast to Nine Inch Nails, Jamiroquai and The Meters, plus many more. What these influences and their own talents and experiences have boiled down to is a vibrant sound that could be compared to The Roots shaking it on the dance floor. A testament to their range, they have also been compared to Rage Against the Machine, Gym Class Heroes and even “Phoenix meets Kid Cudi.”

As for what inspires them to create their diverse sound, the group looks to concepts like changes in life, time, love, heartbreak and deep introspection. They also delve into religious contradictions, dead but inspiring loved ones, hope and despair. Just as varied as the music itself, the lyrics and message touch upon a little bit of everything to keep things exciting.

All of the influences have turned into an amalgam of rich, catchy songs ready to be unleashed to the world. The group began by releasing their single “Where Did You Go? / Breakthrough” in November 2013, which you can hear on their Bandcamp page.

You’ll also be able to catch a recorded version of “Where Did You Go?” featured on WiFi PR Group’s compilation, Indie Anthems Vol. 5. This digital mixtape will be handed out on 3,500 download cards to attendees at Coachella in April 2014, and 1,500 more will be available via download codes on Indie Anthems’ Bandcamp website.

All the Best Kids will soon be able to add their upcoming Notorious B.I.G. tribute show to their list of successful shows, which includes headlining an outdoor festival in downtown Silver Spring, MD, last summer and supporting national act Uptown XO of Diamond District at DC9.

You can find All the Best Kids’ music available for download on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Bandcamp.

Don’t miss their Notorious B.I.G. tribute show when they perform with Lil Cease from Junior Mafia, which was Biggie’s rap group, at The Howard Theatre in D.C. on Monday, March 10th. It will be a fun and awe-inspiring show you won’t soon forget.
